The Last Letter

  • I no longer struggle to move forward

  • Knowing that, in your annals of true romance,

  • I am not judged by the cover at first glance.

  • I traveled and circled the ratio of your eyes’ circumference to find trustworthiness.

  • Though still labeled uncomfortable, I am confident a better title will do me justice.

  • I will press on, I have yet to convince you that, according to the good book, your thirst is quenchable.

  • I stand to prove to you that I am more than just your average individual.

  • Because ruining your life was nowhere near my intention,

  • Developing something of significance for you didn't come easily.

  • It all started to unravel at a time least expected,

  • Feeling your presence drawing close to me even when you were so far.

  • In the midst of it all, you weren't even at the center of my life until suddenly you are.

  • Amazingly, you opened my eyes when you allowed me to hold on to something of extreme value to you, as ordinary and obvious this may sound.

  • When I asked you the next day why would you let me, a person you barely even knew,

  • You assure me with confidence that you've got nothing to hide.

  • You forever changed how I used to be so selective, how I’ve approached things in the past.

  • I suppose you're not average, thus I beg you to return the courtesy and assume not that I am your average beverage.

  • How you showed kindness to your friends as well as strangers, how your smile captured my heart!

  • He crowns me with you, a reflection of his love. My only fear is doubting that I may never bear enough fruits to match even a small percentage of what he has done in my life.

  • Let us take a walk in the light,

  • Drawing the line between temptations which are meant to be resisted and trials which are to be accepted.

  • Let the fantasies we are all guilty of be overcome by our good intentions.

  • This poetic letter, though it may not be coherently well structured, is my truth.

  • You, in the other hand and in my own definition, lack no substance.

  • I am grateful for anything but a piece of you,

  • In a worldly perspective, your wholeness alone completes my incompleteness.
